The Peninsula hosts street kids' soccer tournament

The Peninsula all-suite
What the PSL couldn't organize with a 5 million rand budget, the cape.socca.union did with R1500. They put together a league cup for 6-aside street teams and played it out at Wynberg Sports Club on 22 November 2009. 15 teams registered for this league. Street football is a new concept for most South Africans and it is all about building a unified league for the greater cape Metropole. All the children come from disadvantaged backgrounds and this league gives them the opportunity to belong to something. Group matches started at 10h00, knock-outs saw the Somali all stars win 3-1 in 1st semi. Khayelitsha united despatched of barney Steven's street nation in the other semi-final. Somalian all stars then lost the final to Khayelitsha, who won the prize of a nights accommodation and dinner at the Peninsula all-suite hotel.

The Peninsula All-Suite Hotel sponsored a nights accommodation, dinner and transportation for Khayelitsha Football team, the winners of the 2009 Street Football League. The Peninsula also assisted with transporting all the teams to and from Wynberg Sports Club.

We are very proud to be associated with this type of sponsorship as none of these kids had ever seen the inside of a hotel and could only dream of having a night and dinner in one. We feel that we have given them some memories they will never forget.

Hidden Talent at Riverside Hotel & Spa

Hidden Talent at Riverside Hotel & Spa
Hidden talents of Riverside Hotel & Spa staff were recently revealed when an initiative was implemented within the hotel. The initiative aims to encourage all staff members to involve themselves in different projects in the work place, resulting in financial gain for those involved. Siphiwe Mpanza, a floor supervisor, at the Riverside Hotel & Spa is one example of a staff member who contributed to this initiative.

After indentifying old and damaged throws as a material that could be reused, Siphiwe quickly got to work using the undamaged pieces to make matching cushions covers. The result was exquisite, Siphiwe was paid for her hard work and The Riverside Hotel & Spa managed to make use of fabric that normally would have been thrown out. “Continuously outsourcing companies to do small things around the hotel doesn’t seem to make sense anymore, why not give the job to someone within our team, that we know and trust, at the same time empowering our staff and nurturing their ability to develop a new skill.” say General Manager, Shamini Pather. The staff members at Riverside Hotel & Spa are delighted with this new challenge, allowing them an opportunity to make extra money and develop new skills.
